Fancy Nancy Party Recap

Finally! We had our Fancy Nancy Bonjour, Butterfly party yesterday and it was a big hit! BabyGirl had a blast and I think the other 16 girls did as well. Of course, it was pouring down rain outside...so thank goodness we decided on an indoor party.
The girls arrived and sat down to color some Fancy Nancy pictures that I downloaded from this great website. Once all the girls had arrived we all gathered in the living room to read "Fancy Nancy Bonjour, Butterfly".

Of course, I read to MY kids all the time...but reading to a group of girls and their mothers/fathers was kind of nervewracking to me for whatever reason. I'm sure I skipped a few sentences but thankfully, I don't think any of these kids can really read yet.

We then went into the sun room, which was decorated with butterflies hanging from the ceiling (note to self: remember to call painter to re-paint sun room ceiling) (note to readers: do not try to adhere butterflies to ceiling using packing tape). I had three tables set up for the activities and eating in this room. These tables are avalable at Sam's Club and are perfect for kid's parties. I used to always rent these heavy, cumbersome tables but then I found these adjustable ones and they are so light and storable! They are just the right height for the kids now and they will grow with the kids as they grow.

The girls were adorable in their wings, tiaras, and fairy wands (I found wands exactly like the one Fancy Nancy has on the cover of the book). The wands and tiaras were from Oriental Trading and I got the fairy wings for a great deal from this Ebay Seller.

After we got all dressed up we sat down at the tables and did some beading. This was lots of fun and the girls were all so quiet and focused I couldn't believe it! They ended up making some really cute necklaces. One sweet girl even made one for her Mom, and it was just what she would have chosen.

After beading we colored some little wooden butterfly pictures frames that I got from AC Moore. Love that place.

Then it was on to pizza, cupcakes, and parfait (fancy for ice cream, of course!). I had tried to decorate the kitchen like The King's Crown, which is the pizza parlour in the original Fancy Nancy book. I took Journey to our Daughter's adorable banner idea and made a sign. I also used these paper pom pom's from the Martha Stewart Craft Collection at Michael's. (note to self: painter needs to paint TWO ceilings) BabyGirl insisted on cupcakes and rather than make them myself I got them from our favorite bakery. The girls had a great time making their own sundaes and making a mess!

We all cleaned up using our uber cute napkins from To Bee Named. At the end of the party BabyGirl passed out her goody bags. I hit the Target one spot hard one day and got all the cheesy Easter purses and white gloves for the girls. We also threw in some beads and star shaped sunglasses...BabyGirl handed each one out and told her friends "this is everything you need to get fancy at home". So Cute.

Mercifully, BabyGirl agreed to open her gifts AFTER everyone left. She loved them all but I'm pretty sure her favorite was the Fancy Nancy doll that friends Caroline and Elizabeth bought for her. I don't know how their Mom found it! I've been searching everywhere.

And now...the pictures!

What fun! It looks like the birthday girl had a great time! Everything looked so cute. I think after having 16 little girls over you deserve a reward of some sort.

You really know how to plan a party girl! That is the cutest thing I have ever seen! :) I first read Fancy Nancy 3 or 4 years ago at a teacher conference and fell in love with her. My copy of Bonjour Butterfly came today! I love her! I am definitely taking notes for if/when i have a little girl!

You did a great job with the party! I am introducing my princess to Fancy Nancy this Easter (a present). I spend months planning her birthday parties and can't wait to have a Nancy one when she is a little older! Thanks for sharing. Baby Girl is BEAUTIFUL!!!

I just wanted to say thank you. My soon to be 4 year old said that she wouldnt turn 4 unless she was able to have a fancy nancy party. I found your blog and got a ton of great ideas.

This is going to sound so strange, but while reading your post. I noticed your PERFECT shade of Yellow on the walls. Do you happen to know the name of the color and who its made by? Thanks so much I hope that its not too much trouble.

Thank You,
Taylor

My daughter is about to turn 4 in July and is leaning toward the Fancy Nacy theme. I'm out here getting ideas and I came across your site and got a lot of helpful tips. The only thing I'm trying to keep in mind is that she wants to invite her whole preschool class...boys and girls. Any suggestions on how to carry out this theme with a co-ed party?

Here is the secret to hanging things on the ceiling without calling a painter . . . clear Command Adhesive mini hooks intended for holding the strings of lights.

They work perfectly and pull right off after you're done.
